By securing the long term services of Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson, Arsenal have demonstrated total commitment to Arsene Wenger’s policy of putting his faith in youth, and will hold the club in good stead as the Gunners mount what they hope will be a successful title assault. After two stunning wins at Everton and at home to Portsmouth, the current Gunners’ side are looking in ominous mood. Yes we can look at the merits of what transpired in the defeat at Old Trafford, but neutrals and Manchester United fans alike will accept that Arsenal at 1-0 up were in control and should have claimed a famous victory. Only a sequence of aberrations from Manuel Almunia and Abou Diaby enabled United to claim victory, and the likelihood of Almunia and Diaby fluffing again at the same time in future remain remote. We must also not that Arsenal will get even stronger after this setback.
Denilson opting to keep the faith in Wenger and Bendtner too demonstrate the will of their manager to back his players, and both these 21 year olds had no hesitation in signing on the dotted line. Denilson set the season alight with his superb volley in the season’s opener at Everton. Bendtner although yet to open his season’s account was in strong demand from Europe’s top clubs, and will no doubt better his fourteen goal tally fro last season. |
